THE REPERTORY THEATRE | BIRMINGHAM

Client:         The Birmingham Repertory Theatre
Role:            Project Manager and Employers Agent
Sector(s):   Arts, Culture and Heritage

We were thrilled to act as Project Manager and Employers Agent on the £2.9m Birmingham Rep “Open House” redevelopment

The project has completely transformed the internal and external spaces at the well-known Birmingham landmark. Works have involved significant remodelling to all front of house spaces within the iconic building.  Externally, the project has delivered a new main entrance and the creation of a dining terrace overlooking Centenary Square. The renovation of the public spaces will ensure the best possible experience for all visitors and generate vital additional revenue to protect the future of The Rep.

The scheme included:

  • A new entrance onto Centenary Square including an external dining terrace
  • The redevelopment of the existing foyer and circulation spaces, utilising premium finishes and bespoke joinery throughout
  • The introduction of a large performance bar for theatre audiences
  • A new café bar
  • A new dining area
  • Catering kitchen and food preparation areas
  • The creation of new lounge and performance space
  • A new mezzanine level VIP bar and events space
  • The transformation of the existing box office

We worked with DSA (both David and Lucy) to deliver our Open House project over the period 2020-22.  As project managers they’ve excelled and have delivered a project that’s finished to the highest level of quality.  Delivering the project on a live site alongside theatre productions was an ambitious undertaking, given the constraints and demands of theatre-making, but DSA managed the process with calm professionalism, navigating between the project team/main contractor and theatre professionals with often conflicting needs.  I’m absolutely sure that the process of delivering the project was significant easier with DSA as PM than it might have been otherwise.  Nothing was too much trouble for them and personally they couldn’t have been more supportive of the team or nicer to work with.  They were highly respected within The Rep team – from the operational staff dealing with them on a day to day basis to the Board of Trustees and Capital Sub Committee.  Every individual who has come into contact with them has had only positive things to say about them.  I’d have no hesitation in recommending them.”
